JUSTIN’S METAL REVIEWS W/C 15/12/08

VOODOO CIRCLE / VOODOO CIRCLE

I have to confess that I ordered this album before I’d even heard a note because the pedigree looked so good, the band features the Guitar Maestro Alex Beyrodt (Silent Force), the ex singer with Pink Cream 69, Matt Sinner on bass and guest appearances form Dougie White (Malmsteen) Rudi Sarzo (Ozzy) and Norifumi Shira (Concerto Moon), I just knew I would love it and I wasn’t wrong.

If you like Classic Rainbow / Yngwie Malmsteen, then you will be over the moon with this fantastic CD, the guitar playing is as you would expect flawless, fluidic and full of melodic speed riffs that will make your head spin.  You only have to hear tracks like “Desperate Heart”, “Master Of Illusion”, “Angels Will Cry” and “We’ll Never Learn” once to get totally hooked as the standard of material is so high you will feel light headed.

This is a very fine CD that deserves to be in you collection and its just in time for Christmas, so if someone wants to buy you a little something you know what to tell them, you just know this is going to be played to death on my HFM show, album of the week? Do you really need to ask?

SALIVA / CHINCO DIABLO

This is the 5th album from Saliva and it’s just as good as the others, if you like groove laden Melodic Rock filled with great hooks then Saliva are just what you’re looking for.

The CD kicks off in fine style with “Family Reunion” it may be commercial as Christmas but that doesn’t stop it from being a damned fine song and worthy of being a hit single and this track is not alone as “My Own Worst Enemy”, “Hunt You Down” and “Judgement Day” prove.  Its not all out and out Rock the power ballads “How Could You?” and “Forever & A Day” are beautiful songs that has radio play written all over them and will no doubt be on my Friday Nith Speicals menu.

If you like well played and written Melodic Rock then this new album from Saliva will do very nicely and even though the album is short and the song “So Long” sounds a hell of a lot like “Clocks” by Coldplay we’ll let them off.
