TRIVIUM / ASCENDANCY

I first cam across this band in 2003 when they released "Ember To Inferno" that I bought on import, now signed to the Roadrunner label, I feel sure they are set to fan the flames ignited by this and gain wider recognition.

Their sound is more Thrash than hardcore but they have the attitude and like Killswitch Engage and God Forbid they have a touch of harmony in the vocals, some great guitar work and this sets them apart from all the other bands, I have to confess that Hardcore isn’t my favourite genre but when it’s done with such class an conviction as this it’s hard to ignore and even harder, not to like. The lyrical content is intelligent and heartfelt (a rare combination) as "Like Light To The Flies" and "The Deceived" demonstrate very well, they say you have to suffer for your art and I would hazard a guess these guys have. You don’t have to read between the line of "Drowned And Torn Asunder" or "Suffocating The Sight" to know what they have gone through.

If your looking for a new band to get behind Trivium are the guys, best tracks; "Pull Harder On The Strings Of Your Martyr", "Departure", "Light Light To The Flies" and "A Gunshot To The Head Of Trepidation", that has some fantastic guitar work in it and "The Deceived". If you get the chance to see them live, don’t pass it up, cheekily the cover features what looks like Iron Maiden’s Eddie heavily bandaged, is this a visual pun?.
