CULT OF LUNA / SALVATION

The sound of Cult of Luna can best be described as a Metallic Pink Floyd, (60’s era) full of Psychedelic influences with a touch of Opeth and My Dying Bride thrown in, the soundscape is huge and when the shortest track on the CD lasts nearly 6 minutes you get the idea they like lots of space to work in.

There are plenty of long and I mean long instrumental passages, which make all the tracks very atmospheric, with a haunting beautiful feel to them and on several they don’t feel the need for lyrics till the last 2 minutes but the curious thing is they hold your attention all of the time. To see what I mean download the track "Leave Me Here" a mere 7 minutes long but it demonstrates my point exactly. The lead track "Echoes" sets the scene perfectly (and no it’s not a cover of the Pink Floyd track) starting off with a simple riff and building slowly into a leviathan of a song, over 10 minutes but not the longest, the epic "Wating For You" has that honour at 13 minutes long.

This music is probably best listened to with a drink, late at night with no distractions and loose yourself in the vastness of the songs. Best Tracks; "Leave Me Here", "Echoes" and "Adrift" the latter is like being in an open boat in some vast calm ocean, with the evening sun slowly setting.
