I never thought I would get to review a Led Zeppelin album but here it is, re-discovered by Jimmy Page, (no doubt in his garage or shed) live tapes of Led Zep live in 1972 and if like me you never got to see one of the greatest Rock bands live, this is the next best thing.
Without Led Zep, there would have been no Grunge, Zeppelin’s popularity was due to the charismatic caricatures that made up the band and because their music was based on the Blues, it had a mass appeal. All Rock and Metal is based on the Blues and because of this no matter what your taste in music, the Blues is the common musical language, any way enough of my history of Metal Thesis.
What we have here is prime Zeppelin in their element, some bands are good in the studio and others are good live, few are good at both, Zeppelin were the exception. Only 5 of the tracks are duplicates of the Song Remains The Same ’78 live CD and its good to hear some of the lesser know songs live. Yes that song is present along with "Rock N Roll", "Immigrant Song", "Going To California", "Over The Hills" and all are a joy to hear, if you are too young to have witnessed them, this is a good introduction to them and if you did see them, this will I am sure bring back memories. Why it’s over 3 discs when it could have easily gone onto 2 is a mystery, but at £15 you can’t moan.
