KATATONIA / VIVA EMPTINESS

Stockholm’s Katatonia have been progressing very nicely for the past 5 years and there understated brand of Metal has been winning audiences across the globe and their army of fans is about to get bigger.

There influences are many and varied, taking what they like for Tool, Sentenced, Paradise Lost and Opeth and make a sound that is very much their own, mournful, Metallic very imposing. Lead off track "Ghost Of The Sun" is typical of their sound with the Metal being held back, staining at the leash while the sorrowful, and emotions pour out. The track "Criminals" owes a lot to Paradise Lost but it’s better than any thing they have done for a long-time while "Burn The Remembrance" starts off with a simple guitar refrain before building into a tremendous slab of Modern Metal.

Overall this is a fantastic CD and will win Katatonia new fans across the globe, if you don’t own a Kataonia CD, then buy this one as it is truly a gem of an album.
