DEVIN TOWNSEND BAND / ACCELERATED EVOLUTION
This the latest CD from the talented Devin Townsend and is not as heavy as SYL project, more Melodic and accessible and a perfect vehicle for his guitar talents to emerge, reminding me at times of Joe Satriani or Stevie Via at their best.
All the songs have an almost hypnotic, haunting quality too them that is very good at evoking emotions, images and despite them being on the lengthy side, leave you wanting more. The other thing that strikes me is that they are simple in construction but you never know where they are going to go next, this is done in such a way that the progression is oblique but doesn’t throw you to one side like a car needing a good wheel balance.
I defy anyone to listen to "Deadhead", "Storm" or "Sunday Afternoon" and not be drawn into the beauty and power of the songs, and there is power here, not aggressive like SYL but powerful never the less. My feeble attempts to describe the music pale into insignificance when you actually hear it and that’s what you have to do to appreciate how good this is. I’m not getting a kickback here but if you go to
http://www.centurymedia.net/ you can pick this CD up for just £10 and not the £14 that I paid for it and the money you save you can put it towards one of Devin’s other CD’s.
