SOULFLY / 3
Elementary math’s tells us that 1 + 2 = 3 and if you put the best of the 1st and 2nd Soulfly CD’s together you do indeed get 3.
Soulfly have progressed and added new elements to their sound but Max has managed to keep the aggression (that was an integral part of Sepultura) and fierce energy that he has become well know for but has enthused it with his Brazilian roots and taken to heart the elements of native cultural music and dragged it scramming into the 21st Century. Yes there are the brutal Metal tunes like "Downstroy", "Enterfaith", "Seek ‘n’ Strike" which are destined to become live favourites but it’s on the more subtle songs like "Tree Of Pain" where they get the chance to explore new territory. Tree like Son Song from the last CD it starts of with a very soulful voice before getting very heavy and Max uses the song to stretch his creative talents. The tradition of having an instrument track called Soulfly on each CD is continued on 3 and like the others is very emotive and shows their lighter side to good effect.
Other tracks to watch out for are "Brazil", "Sangue De Bairro", "One" and "Call To Arms", with each record Soulfly get better and better and those people that wrote him off when he left Sepultura now have egg all over their faces, this is a great CD and one that no true Metal fan should be without and will be hailed as a classic.
