ROTTING CHRIST / GENESIS

This is tribute to Phil Collins, no only kidding, Greece is not exactly known for it's Metal bands but Rotting Christ is the one brilliant exception, their Gothic tinged Death Metal has been captivating audiences across Europe for quite a while and this is even better than Khronos their last one.

All their CD's have had a lot of religious overtones and this has more than most but this only adds and fuels their creativity. They have added a new sound to their arsenal and I can only describe it as being like an Opera Diva in full screaming mode, or like the wailing of banshees, but whatever makes it, it is used to great effect. They mix everything in, from classic Death Metal to Gregorian chants, folk instruments, as well as all the usual influences.

Stand out tracks include; "Lex Talons", "Quintessence", "Nightmare", and "In The Name Of Legion". This is Rotting Christ's finest hour in my opinion and I feel that I will be playing this CD for some time to come and still discovering something new. It's when I listen to music like this that I realise why I like Metal so much, it challenges my preconceptions and forces me to re evaluate my tastes and helps me keep an open mind.
