QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE / SONGS FOR THE DEAF

This is QOTSA 3rd album and they now have their sound well and truly nailed down, the quirky mix of Stoner Rock, boogie and melodies.

This has a spoof radio theme throughout that may get a bit tiresome over time but at least the songs are top class. Musically it sound some times like ZZ Top, Gary Glitter and Kyuss but the dirty earthy guitar licks, organic bass line and the sweet melodies are present throughout.

Whether it’s the pop rock of "No One Knows", the stoner boogie of "Song For The Dead" or "Millionaire" that quirky Queens element is always present. When they get really heavy, it works best for me, especially on "God Is In The Radio". The bonus tracks on the limited first edition, (which includes a free DVD) are a live version of "The Lost Art" and an acoustic track. Overall this is the best QOTSA CD so far.
