MY DYING BRIDE / THE VOICE OF THE WRETCHED

These guys have been around for over 10 years plying their brand of Gothic flavoured Death Metal and have been consistently good throughout.

This is a live album and I don’t normally take to them at best they are a compromise and at worst they amplify all shortcomings of material but this is thankfully one of those rare exceptions.

The material was recorded last year (2001) in Tilberg and there are songs from their latest "Fever Seed" and their oldest "Snow In My Hand" and despite the fact that they were written years apart they sit alongside each other nicely. The old favourites "Turn Loose The Swans" and my personal favourite "The Cry Of Mankind" are both on here and the latter is the Bride at their best, haunting, melodic and mournful, I fancy having this played at my funeral if that's not too morbid a thing to contemplate.

If you don’t know too much about M.D.B. then this is a good introduction to their work.
