FIREBIRD / DELUXE

Second album from 70's inspired Rock band, they don't so much as recreate the sound of the 70's, and they reinvent it more like. The guitar sound is absolutely incredible, no distortion or overdrive pedals just the dirtiest guitar sound I have heard this side of 1973, I wonder if it's a Gibson Firebird.

All the songs are well crafted and lovingly recorded with feel and with depth, they don't live in the past, they just like the sound or simplicity that it represents, not a nu metal riff in sight, just good old fashioned blues inspired Rock like Free and Bad Company and Humble Pie used to, only better recorded with a modern feel to it. One listen to the track "Slow Blues" with it's distorted guitar and over recorded Harmonica, you can tell these love this sort of Rock and are putting all they have got into it.

When the organ on "Miles From Nowhere" kicks in its sheer bliss, tracks such as "Dirt Trap" and Sinner Takes All is Firebird at their best. Overall this is a very credible second album so if you are looking for something a little retro with more than a touch of real feeling this CD is definitely for you. I can't say they don’t make them like this anymore as Firebird plainly do and this from the pen and guitar of Bill Steer ex Carcass and Napalm Death man.
