THE BERZERKER / WORLD OF LIES

Despite the main man joining Akercocke and a previous statement that there would be NO more Berzerker albums, "World Of Lies" appropriately arrives to prove the statement totally wrong.

Berzerker are as intense as car accident and about as comfortable as decapitation but they are a band you cannot ignore, their sound is so in your face, you cannot disregard them, put this together with some intelligent, thought provoking lyrical imagery, pneumatic drill drumming and riffs so heavy you could use them as building foundations and what you end up with is totally unique Metal experience. Songs like "All About You" and "Black Heart" are never going to be mainstream but to the Metal fan they are sheer joy, "Burn The Evil" may not be the Death Metal equivalent of say "Whole Lotta Love" but it does have the same impetus and drive but not the same mass appeal.

This is NOT an album for the uninitiated or the casual listener but if you are an intrepid explorer of the extreme end of the Metal spectrum (and we’re talking X-ray wavelengths here) there is ample enjoyment to be had, watch out for the last track "Farewell" an almost tuneful 20 minute instrumental epic slower number, that sounds like the theme to some movie and a fine goodbye, or is it? This made album of the week on my Pipeline Radio show in February 2006.
